Abstract


Local endocrinologist, Dr Tessa van der Merwe, recently became the first South African and the first woman to serve on two international obesity task forces. She has been appointed to the International Association for the Study of Obesity (IASO) as Honorary Secretary for four years. She has also been invited to sit on the International Obesity Task Force (IOTF), a committee that serves the World Health Organisation by spreading global awareness.
